Earthworms

I feel that Earthworms are in their correct ranking at number one on the top 100 list. They paved the way for plants to grow, leading to Nitrogen and oxygen in the air we breath today.

I slightly disagree with that because cynobacteria and many other spieces help produce the oxygen that earth worms further help us have access to it by helping plants grow. Therefore cynobacteria or sea squirts should have been before earth worms.

The Evolution of Earth !! ... and the Creation of Life

Between Sept. 16 and Sept 18 there should be 6 posts that appear here discussing interesting insights or issues surrounding the theories about the evolution of earth...from it's formation to the creation of continents, oceans and the atmosphere.

The 6 posts should be from Melissa, Megan, Jenna, Mary, Sara and Brandon. All students should comment on these posts by Sept 23

Between Sept 23 and Sept 25 there should be 8 additional posts regarding the creation of life on earth and the relative importance of species that have inhabited our planet of late.

The 8 posts should be from Amanda, JR, Anastasia, Rachel, Kara, Frances, Jarael and Elisha. All students should comment on these posts by Oct. 4.

Yuuyaraq - The Way of the Human Being

Our first assignment is to share and explore insights into the open letter by Harold Napoleon:

Students will share their insights from the reading, write a paper and participate in a round table discussion. While there are numerous outcomes individuals might have and will experience for this exercise, one of them is to personalize the story of cultural subjugation so there may be a deeper understanding of the plight of humanity as we investigate this common theme throughout the very short span of human existence. Perhaps we will learn we have much to learn and a great deal of growth still to experience as a species.

The paper will answer the following questions:

How has reading this book modified your views of Alaska Native and Western people?

Can you relate the teachings to your life experience(s)?

What perspective does it provide?
